Are you planning on decorating your home for the holidays this year? If so, there is a good chance that you will be in need of decorations. When it comes to decorating for Christmas, many individuals automatically head to their local department store or specialty Christmas shop. Buying your Christmas decorations is a great way to get the decorations that you need, but did you know that buying is not your only option? If you are a parent, you are encouraged to let your children make their own Christmas decorations. You will find that there are, literally, an unlimited number of benefits to doing so.
One of the greatest benefits to letting your children make their own Christmas decorations is the feeling that they will receive with the finished product. No matter what the age of your child or children, there is a good chance that they will be pleased with their final products, whether that final product be a Christmas tree ornament or a Christmas picture. And, since the whole point of Christmas decorations is to decorate, your children may be pleased to see their works of art hanging on your walls or on the Christmas tree. As a parent, that could, hands down, be the biggest reason why you should allow your kids to make their own Christmas decorations.
In addition to the pride that they will feel, you should also let your children make their own Christmas decorations because it should be a relatively easy and fun process. When it comes to making Christmas decorations, you will likely find that you have many of the craft supplies needed, already in your home. If not, you can easily purchase craft supplies, including Christmas supplies, from your local craft store or local dollar store. The supplies that you need to purchase don’t even just have to be for Christmas decorations. You can use the leftover supplies for other projects, if you choose to do so. That is one of the many reasons why having your children make their own Christmas decorations is cheaper than buying store bought ones.
Although this article had a focus on letting your children make their own Christmas decorations, you may want to join in the process as well. Not only can you give your children decoration ideas, especially young children, but you can also enjoy some quality time with each other. Christmas is all about family; therefore, by making Christmas decorations with your children, you and your family will be off to the right start, when celebrating Christmas. Whether you help out a little bit or make your own Christmas decorations, you and your children will likely enjoy the time that is being spent together.
Once the Christmas decorations have been made, whether they were made with your assistance or not, they will need to be displayed. When displaying your child’s homemade Christmas decorations, it is important that you give them time to dry, especially if paint or glue was used. This extra time will help to ensure that the hard work put into the decorations doesn’t go to waste. When the time is right, you and your child could spend the rest of the day or evening decorating your home for Christmas. What better way to end out the perfect day then letting your children help you hang their handmade treasures.

Tips for Starting New Christmas Traditions

There are many reasons a family would wish to start new Christmas traditions. If your family has become larger as a result of marriage or the birth of children. Or if your family has become smaller as the result of a divorce or death. Many life milestones are the inspiration for changing Christmas traditions. Sometimes also the age of the participants weighs heavily on the type of Christmas traditions you have. A family with many young children will probably spend most of Christmas talking about Santa Claus and opening gifts. But a family with little or no small children will spend no time doing this.
When choosing new Christmas traditions, some families get very nervous. They may feel that if they change the tradition – they are “taking away” Christmas from certain family members. It is important to involve every family member in the decision to make a change to Christmas traditions. This way each family member feels they have had their input and they feel comfortable.
There are so many things a family can do on Christmas – besides opening gifts and eating a large meal. The possibilities are endless! If your family is very into athletic pursuits you could all go skiing or ice-skating or hiking. If you’d like to volunteer to help others in your community, there are many things you could do on Christmas Day or Christmas Eve. The most important thing is to find the Christmas traditions that serve you as a family and help you to feel that you have celebrated Jesus’ birthday well and brought your family together on this very important day.
If you choose to change your family Christmas traditions this year, remember that you are just “trying out” a new tradition for this year. It doesn’t mean you have to do this forever or even next year if you don’t want to. Trying a new Christmas tradition can be both exciting and a little anxiety producing for some. Focus on finding Christmas traditions your entire family can enjoy – and you’ll have a wonderful Christmas.
Organize Your Christmas Cards for Success

Do you send out Christmas cards to family, friends and other people you know? This is a very popular Christmas tradition. Many people love to send out Christmas cards – and especially love to receive them!
But even though they may love Christmas cards, getting one’s Christmas cards sent out sometimes can seem quite overwhelming. In today’s world the average person knows about 50 to 100 people they can easily feel comfortable in sending Christmas cards to. That’s a lot of personal mail to manage all at once, especially when you include all of the other Christmas chores families have during this holiday time. Fortunately there are some ways you can organize your Christmas cards for success.
One of the best tips we can give you in order to send out your Christmas cards is to not plan on doing this entire chore in one sitting. Because while sending out Christmas cards is fun – it truly is a chore or errand – it is something we must take time out of our personal lives to do. When you think of getting the entire thing done at once it is so easy to push this to the side and say you’ll do it later. That’s when people often wind up looking at the calendar to realize it is December 26th and it is too late to send their cards out! We suggest you do each of these mini chores, step by step.
Begin by making a master list of exactly who you’d like to send Christmas cards to. Add everyone you want to send a card to. You may have to narrow this list down, but get everyone out on paper in front of you. Keep this list somewhere handy.
From this list now find everyone’s current address. Remember to get a zip code for their address – or the Christmas cards will have trouble reaching them in time. Write down all of the addresses or keep them in your address book where they are accessible to you.
Now we enter the “preparation” phase. Time to pick out your Christmas cards and order personalization if needed. Remember that takes extra time. Order your Christmas mailing address labels. Get your Christmas stamps for mailing. Get a special red or green pen to address your Christmas cards. Keep all of your Christmas card supplies in one location, it can be anywhere you wish and it any type of container you wish – just in one location and one location only.
The week after Thanksgiving start addressing your Christmas cards while you watch television. This is an easy chore and you’ll likely get them done within a few days if not the week. Add the return address label and the stamp.
The second week write your family Christmas letter. Take it to the copy place to have copies made on Christmas paper. Sign each copy and fold it so it will fit in your Christmas letter.
The third week, begin writing your Christmas cards. It is ideal if you can add a short personal note to each. Write one or two sentences to each person you are sending a Christmas card to.
You are now at about December 10th and your Christmas cards are ready to mail. Take them to the post office and mail them! Enjoy the holidays stress free.
Inexpensive Christmas Decorations You’ll Love

Most families look forward to Christmas all year. But many don’t enjoy the added expense that Christmas often brings. One of the biggest expenses is Christmas decorations. You can easily spend thousands of dollars alone on Christmas decorations! Fortunately there are some inexpensive Christmas decorations you’ll love – and get compliments on all season long.
Christmas lights are one of your best Christmas decorations. “But what about the light bill?” you may ask. There are two secrets to adding Christmas lights and still keeping your Christmas decorations inexpensive.
The first secret is to place your Christmas lights strategically, so only put lights where you know people will easily see them. Probably most people will only see lights on the front of the house – there’s little reason to decorate the rest of the house with Christmas lights!
The second secret is to not leave your Christmas lights on all night. While some may enjoy just flipping the switch and leaving them on, this is where your light bill really goes up. But who exactly is looking at your Christmas ornaments at 11pm? Likely very few people! Leave your Christmas lights on for a few hours – right after dinnertime. The most people will get to enjoy them and then you can turn them right off.
Natural Christmas decorations can be some of your best choices for inexpensive decorations – and also some of the most beautiful. What could look better on your front door than a freshly cut pine wreath? Add a few tiny ornaments and a big bow and you have a beautiful wreath to welcome visitors. You can easily customize your wreath using ornaments and ribbon from the dollar store.
Poinsettias are another excellent choice to decorate inside your home. These are often sold in quantities at a discount at nurseries or even the grocery store. Poinsettias make beautiful inexpensive Christmas decorations. Add two, one on either side to your fireplace mantel. Add one to your kitchen table. Place several in your living room and family room. You’ve created a fresh and natural looking Christmas that is lovely yet very inexpensive!
Hosting Out of Town Relatives for Christmas

Christmas is a season when loved ones near or far gather together. This is a time that many look forward to, especially to see family and other loved ones you don’t see at other times of year. But having people – even family – stay in your home can be stressful and sometimes awkward. Try our suggestions to host out of town relatives for Christmas and keep your home full of good cheer.
Ask ahead of time if your family members or loved ones have any specific needs. If they have allergies or dietary restrictions. While you may be aware of some of their concerns, new issues could have appeared during the year you are unaware of. Asking beforehand shows a concerned host for Christmas. It also gives you the time to do special grocery shopping or to make plans to board Fluffy or Fido for the week.
Let your family member feel “at home” in your home. One of the best things you can do if someone is staying with you for more than a few days is to help them to feel comfortable doing things in your home. Show them where the silverware is in the cabinet and where snack foods are. Give them ideas of local activities they could do together as a family or on their own. You will certainly know that some family members may expect a certain amount of caretaking and others will prefer that you not wait on them. The most important thing when someone stays with you for Christmas is your guests’ comfort.
To have the best time, avoid “hot button” discussions where you know you won’t agree. There are many family members who disagree on politics, moral issues or other concerns – yet love each other deeply as family should. Focus on having fun and creating memories as a family for Christmas. If a “hot button” topic is brought up, push it away so your guests can enjoy themselves fully.
Hosting a Christmas Tree Trimming Party

A Christmas tree trimming party is one of the most fun family activities for the holidays. Have you ever been to a Christmas tree trimming party? You begin with a bare but standing Christmas tree and a room full of loved ones and lots of delicious holiday treats. In just a few hours you have a fully decorated tree and a wonderful Christmas activity! Hosting a Christmas tree trimming party is fun and easy.
To host a Christmas tree trimming party you’ll need a large Christmas tree, a living room that can hold the number of people you’ve invited and some tasty holiday treats for everyone to enjoy. A Christmas tree trimming party doesn’t have to be very big. Your party can be simply inviting one or two other families over to help you decorate your Christmas tree. Simply remember you want plenty of room for people to walk around your Christmas tree to hang ornaments.
One of the most important things to remember about holding a Christmas tree trimming party is that this is a fun way for both adults and children to celebrate the holidays. Not everyone you invite will show an interest in hanging ornaments on the tree. You may be surprised at exactly who gets excited about decorating the Christmas tree and who prefers to socialize with other guests. If you are the type of person that likes your Christmas tree decorated “just so” then a Christmas tree trimming party is not for you. Guests are likely going to decorate your Christmas tree the way that pleases them. It is fine to tell them to hang the big star or angel on top – but lots of directions are going to be seen as fussy and not very much fun.
Take lots of pictures for your Christmas tree trimming party. This is a wonderful way to celebrate the holidays. Adults and children enjoy a Christmas tree trimming party!
Choosing the Best Real Christmas Tree
October 30, 2009 by cquiroga001
Filed under Get Ready For Christmas
There’s nothing like a real Christmas tree for the holidays! With that fragrant smell of pine filling your family room and those fluffy needles you can squeeze, a real Christmas tree is a special tradition for many families. But picking a real Christmas tree can often be a challenge. When you visit a Christmas tree farm, nursery or tree lot – there are so many trees to choose from. How do you decide which Christmas tree is the best one? Fortunately you’ve got our tips and tricks to help you get the best Christmas tree on the block!
Always begin by measuring the place you’ll put your Christmas tree. Now this may sound kind of basic, but don’t laugh. Many people actually get so excited – they don’t bother to measure. This means they wind up with too large or too small Christmas trees – causing much frustration and disappointment for the entire family. Most Christmas tree lots, nurseries and farms won’t take returns, so what you buy is completely yours – no matter the size. It is critical you take proper measurements. You’ll need to know how tall your Christmas tree could be and how far the branches could reach. Remember that most tree stands or holders can add up to a foot in length easily to your measurements, so keep this under consideration.
The best Christmas trees are bought by using all of your natural senses. Don’t count simply on sight to get you the best Christmas tree! The way your Christmas tree looks of course is important – but there are other factors that will help your Christmas tree last all season. Give the needles a gentle tug and be sure they don’t fall off. Smell your Christmas tree and it should have a clean and fresh scent. Look at your tree needles for any brown spots. Each of these factors are important to think of when choosing your Christmas tree.
Our final tip for you is to ask the Christmas tree lot, nursery or farm to give your tree trunk a fresh cut before you leave. They’ll completely understand why. This makes sure that your tree comes home ready to drink water and to stay healthy and hydrated. A tree that drinks water looks beautiful all season long!
Christmas simply wouldn’t be Christmas without our wonderful Christmas trees. Enjoy your beautiful Christmas tree and have a very Merry Christmas!
Are Your Christmas Traditions Outdated?
October 30, 2009 by cquiroga001
Filed under Get Ready For Christmas
Did you realize that many families do the same thing, over and over, every Christmas? Sometimes “the same” thing they do is something that everyone actually dreads or just finds a little boring. This is often a sign that your Christmas traditions are a bit outdated. When do you know if your Christmas traditions are outdated?
One of the biggest challenges families face in trying to discover if their Christmas traditions are outdated is often family members will not tell the truth about how they feel about these traditions. They want to be kind and loving to their family, and not hurt anyone’s feelings. These family members may be a little bored on Christmas but they figure it is a small price to pay. They would rather be together – than by themselves on Christmas.
Often in families there are a few family members who are in charge, usually the eldest members. It typically falls to these family members to speak up in a nice way that it is time to make some changes to your Christmas traditions. A very important factor is letting every family member “have their say” about changing Christmas traditions. When changes are made to traditions without input from other family members, they can take this as a very hurtful action. Letting everyone participate is helpful in creating a new Christmas tradition that everyone enjoys.
In choosing a new Christmas tradition, take an honest look at the old Christmas tradition and see what about it each family member likes or does not like. Perhaps one of the biggest challenges for everyone is traveling the far distance. Maybe they enjoy the tradition of coming together for a sumptuous holiday meal. Changing the location of the holidays could then be the best solution. But looking at the old Christmas tradition does help lead to the new Christmas tradition which makes everyone happy about the holidays.
