Most families look forward to Christmas all year. But many don’t enjoy the added expense that Christmas often brings. One of the biggest expenses is Christmas decorations. You can easily spend thousands of dollars alone on Christmas decorations! Fortunately there are some inexpensive Christmas decorations you’ll love – and get compliments on all season long.

Christmas lights are one of your best Christmas decorations. “But what about the light bill?” you may ask. There are two secrets to adding Christmas lights and still keeping your Christmas decorations inexpensive.

The first secret is to place your Christmas lights strategically, so only put lights where you know people will easily see them. Probably most people will only see lights on the front of the house – there’s little reason to decorate the rest of the house with Christmas lights!

The second secret is to not leave your Christmas lights on all night. While some may enjoy just flipping the switch and leaving them on, this is where your light bill really goes up. But who exactly is looking at your Christmas ornaments at 11pm? Likely very few people! Leave your Christmas lights on for a few hours – right after dinnertime. The most people will get to enjoy them and then you can turn them right off.

Natural Christmas decorations can be some of your best choices for inexpensive decorations – and also some of the most beautiful. What could look better on your front door than a freshly cut pine wreath? Add a few tiny ornaments and a big bow and you have a beautiful wreath to welcome visitors. You can easily customize your wreath using ornaments and ribbon from the dollar store.

Poinsettias are another excellent choice to decorate inside your home. These are often sold in quantities at a discount at nurseries or even the grocery store. Poinsettias make beautiful inexpensive Christmas decorations. Add two, one on either side to your fireplace mantel. Add one to your kitchen table. Place several in your living room and family room. You’ve created a fresh and natural looking Christmas that is lovely yet very inexpensive!
